Zumba Gold - what is it?
Zumba® Fitness is a Latin dance-inspired fitness program that gives you a great workout using cardio training steps with movement inspired music. It got its start in Columbia when a fitness instructor Alberto "Beto" Perez forgot his classic aerobic music and substituted Latin music.
Perez then used Latin dance steps with traditional aerobics to form a "fitness-party" that is downright addictive. His students enjoyed it so much they began requesting the Latin music and the new “Zumba” class soon became the most popular class in the fitness gym.
Today, Zumba is one of the fastest growing fitness programs in the world and appeals to all ages. Fortunately, there are enough variations in the Zumba routines to accommodate most all ages and fitness levels. It is estimated that more than 12,000,000 people are enrolled in Zumba classes worldwide.
Zumba Gold®– Zumba Gold is designed for newcomers to Zumba Fitness and for the, fast growing, baby boomer segment of the population. It is also a good fit for individuals who may be limited physically. For example, one of the Zumba Gold workouts includes a routine where participants perform on a chair or in a wheelchair. By taking the original Zumba Fitness program and slowing the pace a little, it better suits those trying to learn the steps and those that need a more leisurely format of exercise. All of the same elements of the original Zumba Fitness are still there (i.e. Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, and Reggaeton music and the Latin dance steps), but more familiar music has been introduced as well (Cha-Cha, Cumbia, Rock’n Roll). The main goal of Zumba Gold is to improve the quality of life for “all” Americans.
Zumba® Gold-Toning – There is also a Zumba Gold-Toning program which provides the benefits of Zumba Toning (done using Zumba Toning Sticks) with the slower Zumba Gold Fitness — so that participants experience the exhilaration of the Zumba Fitness-Party and get an additional weight training boost.. It’s easy-to-follow for both beginners and baby boomers. The Zumba Sticks are low weight, 1 or 2.5 lbs., and provide just a little extra toning to help define muscle groups faster. It has also been proven to increase posture and coordination as well as bone density.
With these two programs, you are sure to have more fun with Zumba Fitness than you ever thought possible. You will learn how much fun staying active again can be. You can do it by yourself, but it is always more fun to get a group together and laugh it up as you learn new steps and get in shape together with others. And to top it off you will be learning some great dance moves so that when you find yourself out on the dance floor with some upbeat tunes pumping from the loiud speakers you can bust a move and dazzle the bystanders.
